Diamond G. "Mr. Diamond" Govostes of Everett, formerly of Stoneham, died suddenly on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Whidden Hospital in Everett. He was only 61 years old. Born on October 29, 1950 in Melrose, he was the son of the late George & Elaine (Constant) Govostes. He was raised in Everett and a graduate of Somerville Trade School in 1968. Diamond was a kind man with a heart of gold. He was a man with many talents and his true talent was in mechanics and he instilled this in all 3 of his boys. He was a true MacGyver and could literally fix anything with anything. Diamond was a hard worker he worked in the oil heat industry for many years and eventually bought himself a van, an oil truck and started his own business. Mr. Govostes owned and operated Diamond Fuel of Everett and had many great, loyal customers. They simply adored him referring to him as "Mr. Diamond". He was a quiet guy, loved his family, children, adored his grandchildren, his friends, movies & cars. He was kind, gentle man and his laugh & "colorful" sense of humor will be missed by many. He was the devoted husband of Paula (O'Brien) Govostes of Melrose, with whom they shared 39 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Christopher Govostes & his wife Laura of Everett, Dennis Govostes of Saugus & the late Diamond P. Govostes. Cherished grandfather of Julia & Charles Govostes. Brother of James & Nickolas Govostes, both of Everett & Linnie Auger of Billerica. Also survived by many nieces, nephews & cousins. A funeral service will be held in the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. Melrose on Wednesday, February 8th at 7PM. Relatives & friends respectfully invited. Visitation from 5-7PM. Interment is private. Arrangements by The Gately Funeral Home of Melrose. Memorial contributions in Diamond's memory may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Pl. Memphis, TN 38105.
